ALONE AGAINST HITLER. ENCOUNTER WITH MICHA¨EL GAUMNITZ

Inspired by a true story, which was the subject of a novel written in 1947 by Hans Fallada, defined by Primo Levi as «one of the finest books on the anti-Nazi resistance in Germany», (also made into various different films), Seuls contre Hitler is a video combining acting, drawing, animation, photography and narration. Gaumnitz has traced the original sources, obtained access to archives and been able to compare the real documents with the fictional version [...] The elaboration of skillfully orchestrated material makes it possible for spectators to experience the act of resistance through the writing, the map, the routes taken through the city, the daily fatigue. Moreover, it poses a series of questions regarding not only the widespread terror of the times but also a resistance that was unfortunately limited to a series of episodes and actions as heroic as they
were isolated.

Michaël Gaumnitz (1947, Dresden) is a painter and graphic artist and the award-winning international protagonist of an original and “red-hot” type of computer graphics. He has collaborated with French television networks and museums in his work on art.
