FIRST EDITIONS

UNFRAMED

INVIDEO 1999
International Exhibition of Experimental and Art Video
6th Year
Milano, Triennale di Milano/Palazzo dell'Arte
28 January - 4 February 1999

"On the eve of a new millennium, Invideo is one of the most original and prestigious exhibitions dedicated to video and new media in Italy". This is above all because over the years it has developed its own critical direction acting as both an observor and promotor of that which is, in terms of video art, different and complex at the same time.

UNCOMMON PLACES

INVIDEO 1998
International Exhibition of Experimental and Art Video
5th Year
Milano, Triennale di Milano/Palazzo dell'Arte
26 February - 1 March 1998

"This year the observatory focused once again - after the panorama of 1997 - on Italian production 'intertwining' it with new work from various other countries. It deliberately juxtaposed Italian videos with those from the rest of the world throughout the various sections". As always the original intention remained the same: "The desire to be amazed by the view of 'others', the search for works revealing an original, visionary eye; a determined view undaunted by audiovisual technology and the much imitated television".

THE FORMS OF VISION

INVIDEO 1997
International Exhibition of Experimental and Art Video
4th Year
Milano, Triennale di Milano/Palazzo dell'Arte
6 - 9 February 1997

"Year after year, INVIDEO is an extraordinary observatory of how international production is changing and evolving: entire genres are born and others disappear, new themes arrive on the scene. Words, images and music constantly change places in a way which is not easy to analyse. Over these last two years, the trend has been for longer format works of increasing complexity, while the borders between narration, abstraction and documentation have narrowed". Drawing on the above, the title The forms of vision reflected on the increasingly unstable and exiguous border between cinema and video and the intertwining of the arts.

An Italian Year in Video
Selection of independent production
2nd Year
Milano, Industria Superstudio
15 - 18 February 1996

A year of Italian video: experimentation, research, historic memory, portraits, artist videos, music, dance, a tribute to cinema, new technology and video installations.

INVIDEO 1995
International Exhibition of Experimental and Art Video
3rd Year
Milano, Triennale di Milano/Palazzo dell'Arte
16 -19 February 1995

At the third edition, the work of recognition and research carried out by the Invideo team, with the help of a network of international collaborators, led to the acquisition of 50 works chosen from a 100 pieces. They were audiovisual offerings with a distinct creative edge which surpassed geographical frontiers, giving an insight into auteurs, themes and languages.

An Italian Year in Video
Selection of independent production
1st Year
Milano, Industria Superstudio
25 - 27 February 1994

Taking their cue from the unorthodox nature of Italian video which moves poetry and sophistication, the directors of Invideo, in collaboration with filmmakers, decided to dedicate an entire programme to the scene. The event, from this year onwards, would give an opportunity to explore new trends and deepen reflections on the subject.

IN VIDEO 1993
International Exhibition of Experimental and Art Video
2nd Year
Milano, Centro Internazionale di Brera - ex Chiesa S. Carpoforo
21 - 24 January 1993

The second edition of INVIDEO focused on works that mixed "fiction, an experimental legacy and a literary and figurative tradition".

The programme sections included travel diaries, video dance, artist portraits selected from both the Italian and international scene.

IN VIDEO 1990
International Exhibition of Experimental and Art Video
1st Year
Milano, Centro Internazionale di Brera - ex Chiesa S. Carpoforo
22 - 25 November 1990

IN VIDEO was born with the aim of creating a place to discover the best the experimental video scene has to offer. A scene with a poetic and anti-television dimension which acts as sort of critical conscience despite, and indeed perhaps due to, the fact it shares the same technological and electronic roots.
The line up of the first edition focused on the 1980s as well as works from Europe and the United States, which have the biggest video art traditions in comparison to others regions.

INVIDEO 1990 was directed by Romano Fattorossi, Felice Pesoli and Roberto Provenzano.
