Luminous signals. Colour, dream, light. Reflections on the great themes of our times (ecology, sickness, exchanges between different worlds and cultures, the crisis, gender issues, the paradoxes of growing incommunicability in the age of digital connections, livid reconstructions of the tragedies of the Nineteen Hundreds); and yet, playfulness, dreaming, surprise, extravagant choreographies, curious time machines, musical and kaleidoscopic cities, enigma, the fascination of art and nature prevail. A taste for play and for paradox which characterized the very origins of the electronic arts.

The authors of the international selection have inspired the title for the 2013 edition, Luminous Signals. After the “critical mutations” of 2012, imaginary now emerge in which colour, dream, spirals of light prevail.

Alongside the selection are encounters with the artists; Caterina Klusemann investigating her family past; Michaël Gaumnitz re-evoking an episode of anti-Nazi resistance; Michele Di Salle with his brand new series of portraits of artists; Giacomo Ravesi and a selection of Italian Videomusic. And works by ENSAD, the important French school, as well as proceeding with our exchanges on audiovisual archives, dedicated this year to digital mutations. INVIDEO also pays a specific tribute to 50years of videoart, curated by Marco Gazzano, which will be accompanied by an irreverent performance by Giacomo Verde.

The 2013 edition is dedicated to Antonio Caronia and Paolo Rosa, with specific tributes to them: two important figures who have left their mark in different ways on our thinking about art and technology and have accompanied INVIDEO’s long history. Travelling companions and companions in the fight to give more space to experiments in art and in thinking. Luminous signals
